Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty

A rhinoplasty is a type of nose surgery which is used to help people with a respiratory problem or any other complication in that area. The nose is one of the most delicate parts of the body, and that is why, at the Beverly Hills Aesthetic Surgical Institute, we take care of offering these services through the best rhinoplasty techniques.

The main objective of this procedure is to treat the aesthetic problems of the nose. It refers to the appearance, proportions and length of it.

We carry out this surgical intervention through two techniques: open and closed rhinoplasty.

Open rhinoplasty is to open the skin to lift it lightly, through an incision in the two nostrils (columella). In this way, the specialist can operate to modify the nose structure and mold its shape and size. Subsequently, the tissue of the two nostrils and the skin will be closed. This technique may not be as recommended for patients with dark skin tones, especially during the healing period. Sometimes, the scars can form painful keloids. At other times, they can heal with darker pigmentations or creating excessive proliferation (hypertrophic scars). The main idea is that the patient has a better appearance thanks to rhinoplasty and does not look unpleasant because of very visible scars. This procedure usually lasts longer and leaves a small scar.

On the other hand, closed rhinoplasty involves performing surgery from inside the nose. It consists of performing the procedures inside the nose through the nostrils without making external incisions. Thanks to that, people will not have scars on their faces. With this technique, you will not have to worry about external scars or incisions, and you can get the same incredible results. Compared to open rhinoplasty, closed rhinoplasty is the best option for those who can easily develop hypertrophic scars or keloids on their skin.
