How many appointments will I need?

What’s the first step?

What to Expect On The Day of Lip Fillers

When it’s time for your Lip Filler treatment, you will first make yourself comfortable in our reclining chair. Once settled in, a topical anesthetic will be applied to your lips to prevent pain and make your experience as comfortable as possible. This portion of your treatment will take about 15 to 30 minutes for your lips to become numb.

The Provider will then use a thin needle to inject the lip filler into strategic locations on your lips. These points can include the edges of your lips (vermillion border), the curve in the center of your upper lip (Cupid’s bow), and the corners of your mouth. Thanks to the local anesthetic, you shouldn’t feel any pain, but many patients express feeling a pinching sensation, which may cause their eyes to water.

Once complete, the provider will gently massage your lips to help them absorb the filler and you will be given an ice pack to apply to your lips to minimize swelling and bruising. We will keep you for about 15 minutes to ensure you don’t experience any side effects, such as dizziness, nausea, or substantial bleeding.

Lip Fillers Recovery

Aftermath

Once you no longer require monitoring, you’ll be free to go home or resume your daily routine. The local anesthetic won’t make you feel tired or groggy, but we like to recommend considering having a family member or friend available to drive you home, just in case.

Your lips may be swollen, sensitive, and bruised, but those reactions should fade away after 24 to 48 hours, however, it can take up to a week. We might ask you to return for a follow-up appointment about two weeks after your treatment to monitor your lips’ recovery. Pictures may be taken for your medical record so you can see what your lips looked like before the procedure and after they healed. We will also provide you with some tips to help you achieve your best results during your initial recovery, which could include:

Apply an ice pack for up to 10 minutes to reduce inflammation, pain, and swelling.
Avoid exercising for at least 24 hours
Be careful brushing your teeth
Don’t wear lipstick, lip balm, or any other product on your lips for at least 24 hours
Drink plenty of water
Refrain from touching or puckering your lips, including kissing and sipping from a straw
