What to Expect on the Day of Facial Implants

David Saadat, MD, may elect to perform the surgery under local or general anesthesia based on your preference and what our team feels is appropriate. The augmentation for most of our patients includes the periorbital region (the bony area that encloses the eye), the cheek, the chin, and the jawline. Once under anesthesia, we will begin by making a thin, small incision in the targeted area. When getting augmentations, an insert will be placed in this newly formed pocket, with the size and type of insert being predetermined during your consultations.
In some cases of Chin Implantation, an external incision under the chin is necessary but hides very well. For placement of an implant along the cheek, an incision can be made inside the eyelid to prevent a visible scar. Alternatively, an incision can also be made through the skin of the lower eyelid within a pre-existing wrinkle line.
Similarly, an incision can also be made inside the mouth for augmentation of the cheeks and malar regions (lower cheek). This can add volume to your face, restoring a youthful and balanced appearance. For placement of a chin implant, we may use an incision inside your mouth or under the chin; this helps the scar hide efficiently. Once Dr. David Saadat is finished, we use sutures, adhesives, or tapes to close the incision. The procedure should take about 30 to 60 minutes in total. Surgery time varies based on the needs of our patients.
