Every now and then, we are able to tap into a phenomenal feeling of self-conviction. This happens when we treat ourselves to something we have worked hard to achieve, offering a state of mind that feels authentic and exciting. It’s that feeling that comes with a new car, outfit, or achievement of an exercise goal. This state of mind is how most patients feel after a Chemical Peel in Beverly Hills. They leave ready to take on the world with brighter, youthful, radiant skin and simultaneously surprised it took so long to get it done. If you want a refreshed, clean-feeling face that eliminates years of impurities, please continue reading below to learn more about our Chemical Peels at Beverly Hills Aesthetic Surgical Institute.

What is are Chemical Peels?

A Chemical Peel is a modern and effortless skin exfoliating treatment that uses a chemical solution to remove the layers of dead, dry skin, revealing new skin underneath that glows with radiance. Chemical peels improve fine lines and wrinkles, acne, scars, uneven skin color, and other skin imperfections. We use three main Chemical Peels in Beverly Hills, each tailored to fit our patient’s needs and desires.

  • Light Chemical Peel: Best for patients with uneven pigmentation, dryness, acne, or fine wrinkling. This peel removes only the outer layer of skin (epidermis) and results in a healthier glow. It uses a combination of alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids, such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, and maleic acid.
  • Medium Chemical Peel: Great for our patients who are dealing with acne scars, deeper wrinkles, or uneven skin color, and more effective for removing damaged skin cells. The chemicals in a medium peel remove skin cells from both the outer layer of skin and the upper part of the middle layer of your skin (dermis). Medium Chemical Peels use trichloroacetic or glycolic acid to reach the middle and outer layers of skills.
  • Deep Chemical Peel: Patients should look into this level of peel if they have deeper facial wrinkles, skin that’s damaged by the sun, scars, and areas that appear blotchy or even pre-cancerous growths. These Peels fully penetrate the middle layer of the skin to remove damaged skin cells; these peels often use phenol or trichloroacetic acid.

We will also review your medical history with you, which you should stay open and honest about to prevent potential risks. What to Expect On The Day of Chemical Peels?

Chemical Peels at Beverly Hills Aesthetic Surgical Institute are typically done in a short and efficient amount of time. Before the procedure, your face will be cleaned, and eye protection like goggles or gauze may be applied if necessary. If you’re receiving a deep peel, our technicians may numb the area with a topical anesthetic.

Light Peel: During a light Peel, we will brush a chemical solution like salicylic acid to the area to be treated. The skin will start to whiten and may have a slight stinging sensation; this is normal. Once complete, the chemical solution will be removed, and a neutralizing solution will be added.

Medium Peel: During a medium chemical peel, we may use glycolic acid or trichloroacetic acid. The skin will begin to whiten, and our technician will apply a cool compress to the skin to soothe any sting sensations; these can last up to 20 minutes with Medium Peel. Sometimes this method is called a blue peel, as there will be blue coloring on your skin that may last for a day or two after the procedure.

Deep Peel: During a deep chemical peel, you will most likely be sedated, followed by a local anesthetic to numb your face. The phenol solution we use is brushed onto your face for an appropriate amount of time. Afterward, the solution is neutralized with water. The procedure will be done in 15-minute portions to limit the skin’s exposure to the acid. Our Aesthetician will apply a thick coat of ointment onto your skin after the peel. After completion, your skin will be covered with tape strips or medicated gauze.

Chemical Peels Recovery

Aftermath

Recovery for Chemical Peels varies on which chemical peel you receive. For Light Chemical Peels, a recovery time is about four to seven days. Your skin may temporarily be lighter or darken through this time.

If you received a Medium Chemical Peel, the skin will recover in about five to seven days, although a slight redness may persist for a few weeks. It’s normal at this time that tiny crusts and brown blotches will form. When these fall off, they will reveal fresh new skin.

Deep Chemical Peels are a more extensive recovery process, as they will cause more swelling and redness. It’s common for the eyelids to swell shut after a Deep Chemical Peel. It will take about two weeks for the new skin to develop, in this time, it’s common for the redness to last for several months.

Dr. Saadat and our team of technicians will advise the best course of action for this recovery period and are here to answer any and all questions about your recovery process.
